Carlists

Essential Reading:

Peter Kemp was basically an adventurer rather than an idealist (though an arch conservative). He travelled to Spain to join the Carlists early in the war, then later transferred to the Foreign Legion. His memoir covers quite a lot of the war from the perspective of a footsoldier/junior officer on the Nationalist side.

To get a copy of the book at a reasonable price, search ebay - it's in print from a minor US publisher.

Kemp's autobiography (The Thorns of Memory) contains a shortened version of this book.

The Imperial War Museum has an interview with Kemp - below (it doesn't add much to the book, but it will teach you how to say requete correctly):

Enthusiastic and careless about taking cover

Carlist Requetes. Figures from Tsuba, Templar and Scheltrum, all with head swaps.

Bible wielding sargento with knife armed fanatic.

Both figures are from Footsore, one on Right has an Empress head.

Officers looking lost

Guy with map is Empress, guy with hands on hips is Footsore with Empress head.

Light machine guns, firing and advancing.

Figures are Templar carlists, tassles on their hats added with greenstuff (Empress carlists have tassles on all ranks, Templar carlists only on the officers - I went with the Empress look for consistency though the Templar one is probably more realistic).

Sniper

Black Tree partisans with added tassles on their berets.

Carlist command

Bugler is Templar, priest and icon bearer both Empress, bible basher is an Empress marxist comissar with a head swap.

Carlist platoon for CoC

Figures from motley sources, Empress, Templar mostly from their SCW ranges but also Black Tree and Warlord partizans, Footsore IRA and interwar, Tsuba and Scheltrum German revolutionaries.

Non Empress figures mostly have had an Empress head added, though those that already had a beret have just had a greenstuff tassle added.

Showing off their traditional blankets

Mostly Templar carlists with added tassles or head swaps. Guy in the middle actually has a Redoubt ECW Scottish head and a greenstuff tassle.
