The Battle of Helsingborg, 10th March 1710

This battle is to either the 'Regimental' or 'Battalion' scales of the Volley and Bayonet rules. The first number is for 'Regimental', the second for 'Battalion'. In 'Regimental' scale combine units of STR 1 into combined units STR 2 or 3. All infantry are linear. For the Swedish infantry there are two unit sizes from different sources. The lists are based on the first number, which may represent 'ration' strength, while the second may be effective strength on the day.

I am extremely grateful to the participants of the Lace Wars discussion group, and to Daniel Staberg in particular, for there help with this list. Without Daniel's help many errors and omissions would have occurred.

Reserve / Artillery:

There were 3 * 12 pdr, 4 * 6 pdr, 6 * 4 pdr, 16 * 3 pdr and 3 howitzers with the Danish army. The smaller guns were massed into batteries and placed into the Danish line, unfortunately the Swedes attacked the Danes in the flank. Forcing the Danes to wheel round to face them and leave all the artillery behind, thus it played no part in the battle. If you wish to do a 'what if' scenario you may include the Danish artillery 1 * M5, Heavy, STR 1, 1 * M5, Field, STR 1 / 2 and 1 / 2 M5, Light, STR 2 is about right. They may be attached to either of the infantry commands.

Notes / Artillery:

The Swedes had 2 * 12pdr, 4 * 6pdr, 26 * 3pdr and 2 * 8pdr Howitzer at this battle. The majority of the artillery was deployed as battalion guns, but there is also some 'battery' artillery (see below). This may be added to any infantry command.

Swedish Artillery: M6, Field, STR 1 / 2

Pikes: As you may have noticed the Swedes do not have their usual allotment of pikes. It is a controversial area, but it seems that by this stage of the war many units did not have pikes. I have been informed that only 25% of the infantry at this battle had them. So I have indicated those units that had them or probably did with the 'Pike' notation. While those that may or may not have had them are 'Pike ??', those with neither are all musket. You may give all the 'Pike ??' infantry the usual proportion of pikes or alternatively field them as all musket. Generally I favour the second option on the balance of the evidence, but it is up to you.
