Today was an AK47 game with Colonial Settlers against a Dictator's Rump.
The Dictator selected three units of Militia infantry with HMG, one regular infantry unit in APCs with HMG and one armoured unit with three tanks. In the political phase the Dictator purged the army but this had no effect on the forces on table. The Settlers had three units of militia infantry, two with HMG and one with RCL and one unit of regular infantry with a technical mounted RCL. Finally, they also had a regular unit with four truck mounted infantry, and three APCs, two with RCLs and one with AA guns. In the political phase the Settlers rejected the UN Resolution calling for majority rule and received some professional help, enabling them to upgrade their regular infantry unit to professional.
The Dictator won the die roll to gain the initiative and the Settlers got to set up the objectives, one in the settlement in the middle of the table, another on the hill at the back of the table and in the palm grove on the right rear of the table. When rolling for on-table units they got all three militia with their regulars and professionals remaining in reserve. They chose to deploy one unit of militia on each of the on table objectives. The Dictator got his two regular units (tanks and armoured infantry) on-table at the start of the game with all three militia in reserve.
The Dictator's armour and armoured infantry advances on the settled area in the centre of the table and they manage to ‘kill’ the militia HMG team and pin one other element and the militia fail their first morale check before retiring in the the terrain to avoid casualties. Having no target after this, the Dictator's tanks move to bring the militia in the palm grove under fire and as the militia roll several poor dice they remain on the edge of the terrain, failing several morale tests and eventually run away. In the centre, the armoured infantry debus and slowly move to the settled area, their APCs staying out of range of the Settlers RCLs based on the hill. Eventually, the militia on the hill move forward to support their friends in the settled area coming under fire from the HMGs mounted on the APCs.
On turn three the Settler's APC unit arrives and comes on table in the middle of the right hand side to threaten the Dictator's armoured unit and the Dictator's militia unit arriving at the rear corner, intending to take the objective in the palm grove that had been vacated by the Settler's militia. In the ensuing fire fight the APC mounted RCLs managed to claim one knocked out tank but loosing all three APCs in exchange
In the last three moves the Settler's professional infantry arrive on-table but lose their jeep mounted RCL in an exchange with the Dictator's tanks but are too late to dispute the objective in the palm groove. The settler infantry attached to the APCs debus and, despite multiple hits from two units of militia, manage to survive until the end of game with two infantry bases remaining.
In the centre, the Dictator's regular infantry finally assault the settled area and in a dramatic fight the Settler's militia manage to inflict one kill and four pinned units. In exchange, the regulars inflicted seven kills leaving the militia with only one element remaining. In the ensuing morale tests the militia unit fails and then fails the second forced morale test, leaving the regulars in charge of the objective.
At the end of the game the Settlers only managed to control one objective and roll 22 on their 6 dice giving them 27 game points. The dictators rolled 11 on their 3 dice, held the 30 and 20 point objectives and had destroyed two opposing militia units, giving them 75 game points and a substantial victory.
