AK47 - West vs East in the Colonies Round 2

This game was played at Tom's house in the second week of September 2024. My thanks to him for the following report and photos.

For today’s game we decided to fight AK47 (house rules) with Eastern block backed Government forces facing off against recalcitrant Western backed Colonialists. The Government forces were one regular armoured unit of three early tanks, one regular infantry unit with three APCs with HMG’s and nine men. These were supported by three units of militia each with 8 infantry and one HMG. The Colonialist forces had one regular unit with three APCs with recoilless rifles and four infantry in a lorry. A second regular unit had eight infantry and a jeep mounted RCL. These were backed up by three units of militia with 8 infantry and one RCL.

In the pre-game phase the Colonialists make a unilateral Declaration of Independence resulting in a ‘chicken run’ leading to a foot mounted regular infantry unit being downgraded to militia. The dictator had a successful crack down on dissent, feeding dissenters to the crocodiles and upgrading the APC mounted infantry to professional.

In the game the Government forces are on the defensive and manage to get all units bar one onto the table. The militia units are deployed on the first objective in the palm grove, the second in the village, with the armoured units being deployed centrally. The Colonialists only manage to get three units onto the table, deploying one unit of militia in the centre behind the scrub and another unit of militia and the APC mounted unit behind the hill on their left.

The Government tank unit moves to confront the Colonialists on the left and in a deadly exchange of fire all the tanks are knocked out and one of the Colonialist APCs is destroyed and the other two are pinned. In the following moves the Government infantry units move to confront the Colonialists, only to be forced to reverse course when a unit of Colonialist reinforcements arrives behind them. A second unit of reinforcements arrive behind the palm grove with objective one and advance to dispute this with the Government militia.

A second unit of Colonialist militia manages to reach the scrub with objective two, The Government armoured infantry try to dispute objectives two and three but are stretched too far, loosing an APC and three infantry elements pinned. The Colonialist reinforcements threatening the rear of objective three lose the fire fight and end up being broken.

At the end of the game the Government forces held one objective and had destroyed one militia unit. The Colonialists had taken the 30 point objective and had destroyed one regular unit, giving them the victory.
